I am the Festographer.

My name is Taku, and I am The Festographer—
Toronto's festival and special event photographer.

As a photographer of more than 10 years, I have always loved capturing that one moment in time. To be able to look back at a photo and relive that moment speaks volumes to me.

I have been photographing festivals and special events for the past eight years and love the diverse nature of this type of photography. From within theatres to live performances to outdoor concerts, the challenge to capture each scenario at its best is what keeps me wanting to photograph more.

I make you look good

You spend countless hours, days, weeks, and months preparing for your festival or special event
so that every detail is not overlooked. Hundreds or maybe even thousands of people enjoy your festival,
so why wouldn't you want to keep those moments afterwards?

Whether for marketing or archival purposes, I make sure your festival or special event looks its best.

What I do

I believe that all of your efforts should not be forgotten after your festival or special event ends.
To ensure many of the event's finest moments are preserved, I photograph your festival or special event and make sure it looks its best.

With a complementary social media strategy, I also increase your online exposure.

Marketing

My photographs are often used for marketing purposes, whether it be for e-mailing, web use, or print use (brochures, magazines, newspapers, etc.).

Documentary/Archival

Archival photography makes sure the many details of your festival or special event are preserved for future reference.

Sponsorship

My photography can be used to document sponsor activation, giving you proof that your sponsors are being recognized throughout the event.

Architectural Photography

Interior and exterior architectural photography captures the environment your festival or event thrives in.

photography Workshops

I can work with your volunteer program to coordinate a photography component/workshop. Please enquire for details.

FAQ

Perhaps this section can answer more of your questions.

What exactly do you do?

I am a festival and special event photographer that takes photos during your festival or special event.

Why would I need a photographer to do that?

There are many advantages to hiring a photographer to document your festival. Many of my photos have been used for the event's marketing campaign whether it be for e-mailing newsletters, creating brochures and posters, or simply posting online on Facebook. They have also been used to send to the many sponsors of the festivals to prove that the sponsors are being recognized and their products are being used throughout the event.

Why should I hire you when I can get volunteer photographers?

Volunteers are a great asset to any organization. In fact, this is how I started my festival photography as well. However, more often than not, as volunteers, they may not be familiar with the ongoings of a large-scale and fast-paced festival/event operation, and may not understand the intricacies of photographing one. Moreover, with the myriad of scenarios a festival or special event can present to the photographer, volunteers may not be capable of handling all of these situations. As a seasoned festival photogapher, I know what to look for and am well versed with a number of situations, allowing me to react and take photos naturally and professionally within busy festival environments.

In addition to the know-hows of photography, I use professional equipment, and produce striking cinematic stills through various post-processing techniques that are unique to my editing style.

Cinematic Stills? What's that?

Cinematic stills are what I like to call my style of editing. These photos are visually hightened for a more cinematic look to the image. These images are more striking to the viewer and leave a lasting impression. A large part of my landscape and architectural photography follow this style.

You mentioned social media. Tell me more.

Social media is a great way to expand your festival or special event's online presence. A Like on Facebook, a quick tweet on Twitter, or a snap on Instagram, are all great ways to enhance your marketing campaign. My social media presence is not meant to replace your festival or event's social media strategy. Rather, it is meant to complement it through various posts, tweets, and photos, throughout the festival—all coming from a photographer's point of view.

You can follow me on these various social media outlets: Facebook and Twitter.

What's all this talk about working alongside the festival's volunteer program?

Some festivals and speical events have a large volunteer program to help with the event. Some of these volunteer programs have a creative component to them. If you are interested in creating a photography component to your volunteer program, I can help you with this as well. With prior experience as a workshop instructor, I am capable of teaching small-medium sized groups in photography. I can cater the lesson to beginner, intermediate, or advanced users and come up with a lesson plan that will be both educational and fun for the students. As an example, I am currently the instructor for the Youth Volunteer Photography Program for Luminato Festival's Outreach program, and can do the same thing for you. For more details on this, please feel free to email me.

Tell me even more!

If you think your festival or special event can benefit from my photography, please feel free to email me. I always like to meet with the organizers first to get to know a little more about the festival or special event. Then we can discuss the finer details of what you are looking for.

Anything else?

My love for photography started with a trip to Italy. I have since developed a passion for landscape and travel (both near and far) photography. You can view some of these photos on my personal website at http://www.smaku.com.
